FOPREL Supports Morocco’s Territorial Integrity
Forum of Presidents of the Legislative Bodies of Central America and the Caribbean Basin (known by its Spanish acronym FOPREL) supports the territorial integrity of Morocco and its efforts to reach a solution to the Sahara issue, FOPREL President, Mario Taracena Diaz-Sol, said Monday in Rabat.
“We recognize the sovereignty of Morocco over the Sahara”, Diaz-Sol told the press following his talks with Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, underlining that FOPREL member countries support the efforts of the Kingdom to reach a solution to the conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.
“All the peoples of Central America and the Caribbean support Morocco, a peaceful country that believes in democracy”‘, Diaz-Sol, President of the Guatemalan Congress, said, hailing the reforms undertaken by HM King Mohammed VI in all fields.
In this regard, he expressed his determination to promote a “parliamentary statement” within the Guatemalan Congress to reaffirm the ” total and firm support ” of his country to Morocco, adding that the Kingdom can count on its ” friends worldwide ” to defend its causes.
The Forum of Presidents of Legislative Branches in Central America and the Caribbean (FOPREL) consists of eight permanent members: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic.
