CELAC supports before 4th Committee efforts for a “negotiated political” solution to Sahara region
The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) reaffirmed on Monday, its strong support for the implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions to reach a final solution to the Sahara issue.
Speaking before the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly on behalf of CELAC, Ambassador Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the UN, Francisco Cortorreal expressed support for the resolutions of the Security Council adopted since 2007.
Similarly, Antigua and Barbuda reiterated before the 4th Committee, their call for a negotiated political solution to the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
For its part, Guatemala reiterated Monday support of the efforts by the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to reach a just, lasting and mutually acceptable, solution taking into account developments since 2006.
All these resolutions describe the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco as serious and credible.
