The wise policy of HM King Mohammed VI helped Morocco gain a strong political and economic presence in Africa and made it an influential regional power that is respected by African peoples and leaders, said, on Thursday in Rabat, foreign minister Nasser Bourita.

Bourita, who gave a presentation at the weekly cabinet meeting convened under the chairmanship of the head of government Saâd-Eddine El Othmani, recalled the royal outlines laid down in the speech given by HM the King on Nov. 6, 2016 in Dakar on the 41st anniversary of the green march, said minister delegate for relations with parliament and civil society, spokesperson of government Mustapha El Khalfi in a statement read out during the press briefing following the cabinet meeting.

The sovereign had said “look forward to seeing the government adopt a comprehensive, integrated policy towards Africa and deal with the continent as one bloc. I also expect ministers to grant as much importance to Africa as to their missions and trips to western countries.”

He added that HM the King stressed in the same speech the need that the government overcomes past obstacles related to Morocco’s respect of its commitments towards its partners.

Bourita said that preserving the credibility that Morocco enjoys in Africa depends on respecting its commitments towards its African partners.

In accordance with the Royal Instructions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up monitoring mechanisms at the central administration and at the Moroccan embassies in the African partner countries to ensure compliance with the agreements signed with them, he said.
