Italian Pundit Says Close Ties between Polisario, Jihadist Groups Jeopardize Stability in Sahel
The close ties between Polisario and jihadist groups jeopardize stability in the Sahel and Sahara region and even pose a threat to Europe, said Italian expert Alessio Postiglione.
In an article by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), Postiglione explained that “connections between separatists and criminal organizations pose a direct threat to the security of the entire region”.
Noting the poor living conditions and the distress of young people in the Tindouf camps, Postiglione pointed out that this zone has become a hotbed for enrolling new fighters for terrorist groups.
He also recalled the kidnapping of an Italian tourist, South of Algeria, by Jihadists in complicity with the Polisario Front members, a fact that he mentionned in his book “Sahara : a Desert of Mafia and Jihadi Groups”.
