Sahara Issue: Paraguay’s Chamber of Deputies Unanimously Adopts Resolution in Support of Morocco’s Autonomy Plan
The Paraguayan Chamber of Deputies has unanimously adopted a resolution in support of Morocco’s autonomy plan in the Sahara region.
The resolution, which welcomes the initiative presented by Morocco and the spirit of openness displayed by the Kingdom as well as its serious and credible efforts aimed at reaching a political and acceptable solution to this regional dispute, notes that a solution based on realism and commitment will contribute to the stability and security of the region.
In this regard, the Paraguayan Chamber of Deputies has welcomed the efforts of the Kingdom and the commitment it has shown at the United Nations, expressing its support for a peaceful and fair political solution to the Sahara issue.
Paraguayan MPs also stressed the importance of the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, and recalled that the United Nations Security Council called upon the neighbouring states to cooperate more fully and to strengthen their involvement to achieve progress towards a political solution.
Morocco has demonstrated its commitment to respecting democracy and human rights, as confirmed by several UN Security Council resolutions, they said, adding that the UN Security Council has welcomed the recent steps and initiatives taken by Morocco, and the role played by the National Council on Human Rights Commissions operating in Dakhla and Laayoune, as well as Morocco’s interaction with Special Procedures of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
The resolution underlines the concern of the Security Council over the humanitarian situation in Tindouf Camps in Algeria and its call to Algeria to allow the registration of populations in these camps in order to end their sufferings.
